'They might "know less than they pretend" but they still know a hell of a lot more than the average Jo.' That surely depends on the type of expertise that they are claiming. Some claimed expertise on child abuse, for example, would seem to be sheer fantasy or, perhaps, malevolent fabrication.

My sceepticism includes direct democracy, and it was born after many hours of students assemblies.
This kind of scepticism favours indirect democracy, because democracy has its dangers and the more 'direct' the more dangerous.
Maybe you were thinking in smallest constituencies ?
