From Arse To Elbow

You seem to be arguing that familiarity mitigates contempt, but there is a lot of evidence to the contrary in the case of MPs. Perhaps the key to understanding the Dail Mail's interpretation is simply the number of middle-aged men in senior newspaper roles.

GrueBleen

All this has been known informally for quite a while. I might remind you of the 1965 movie 'The Collector' when Miranda Grey (Samantha Eggar) comments on her captor Freddie Clegg (Terence Stamp) that if he actually saw or encountered somebody in need he would try to help, but he just couldn't grasp the more 'abstract' suffering of large sections of humanity and therefore did not support charities. I thought everybody knew that. No ? So it goes.

As to the disproportional recognition of "private-school shysters", surely it's obvious that the Farages and Johnsons of this world go to a great amount of trouble to make sure that they are widely recognised. How else are they going to successfully con and grift ?
